Today is Eid! TaqabalaLLaahu minaa wa minkum
The month wasn't without it's usual controversy on the start and end date. The DITIB and most of the Turkish community had already decided that Eid will be on Sunday the 30th, which will make Ramadaan 29 days. The African and Arab community were more insistent on following the Sunnah and waiting for the sighting of the cresent. I knew where I stood on the matter, but it was just uncomfortable that we were witnessing again this year.
Thankfully, the Cresent was sighted at the end of the 29th day and we all celebrated Eid today. I had a call with my childhood friend and he told me that it was not the case in Lagos. Apparently the leader of the Markaz Academy in Lagos had already declared that Ramadaan will be 30 based on some astronomical calculations and those aligned with him did not observe Eid. The Eid prayer ground closest to my friend is under thec ontrol of such people. By the time he arrived there and noticed they were not going to observe Eid, it was too late to go somewhere else.
